On July 23, 2026, BASF Coatings (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was officially renamed Surventis (Shanghai) Coatings Co., Ltd. Founded in 1995 with a registered capital of approximately RMB 609 million, this joint‑venture enterprise ranks among BASF’s earliest‑established coatings businesses in China. It has long supplied coating products to joint‑venture automakers including SAIC‑Volkswagen and SAIC‑GM. Nevertheless, as of August 26, Tianyancha corporate records showed no synchronous change in equity structure. Its shareholders remain BASF Coatings GmbH holding 60% and Shanghai Huayi Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. holding 40%. This special transitional state of “name changed while equity unchanged” reflects the accelerated restructuring of business entities in China’s coatings market following BASF’s global divestiture of its coatings business.

Tracing the origin of this rebranding wave: effective July 1, 2026, the former BASF Coatings division became an independent entity operating under the new brand “Surventis”, headquartered in Münster, Germany. This standalone business segment generates annual sales of around 3.9 billion euros, employs roughly 10,700 staff, and operates more than 30 production and R&D sites worldwide. Its business spans over 140 countries and serves more than 42,000 customers. It owns well‑known industry brands such as Chemetall®, Glasurit® and RM®, backed by over 130‑year technical expertise in coatings and surface treatment. In terms of equity, Carlyle Group and Qatar Investment Authority act as core controlling shareholders, while BASF retains a 40% stake. At present, administrative name‑change procedures for multiple Surventis‑owned and wholly‑owned subsidiaries in China are being carried out in batches, bringing about pattern reshaping in China’s automotive and industrial coatings sectors.

Against shifts in market landscape, low‑VOC reform of coating formulations, improvement of system stability, and domestic substitution of additives have become hot industry topics. Demand for co‑solvents and solubilizing additives keeps rising in formulations for coatings, industrial cleaning and surface treatment.Sodium xylenesulfonate(CAS: 1300‑72‑7) serves as a critically important auxiliary raw material in industrial formulations.

As an aromatic sulfonate‑type co‑solvent, sodium xylenesulfonate delivers outstanding solubilizing, viscosity‑reducing and dispersing properties, featuring good water solubility and high formulation compatibility. In coating systems, it improves mutual solubility among diverse surfactants and additive components, lowers system viscosity, enhances storage stability of coating formulations and reduces risks of stratification and precipitation. Meanwhile, it is widely applied in industrial cleaning and metal surface pre‑treatment processes supporting the coatings industry, matching supporting‑process requirements across the automotive coating value chain. It is an indispensable fine‑chemical raw material for supporting links within automotive‑coating industrial chains.

Shijiazhuang Feizi Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. takes sodium xylenesulfonate as its core supplied product. It can provide complete Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Certificate of Analysis (COA) for customers engaged in coatings, fine chemicals and industrial cleaning, ensuring stable batch quality and traceable information of raw materials.

With Surventis completing its business independence, China’s automotive‑coating market faces a window‑period for supply‑chain reshuffling. Steady supply of upstream fine‑chemical raw materials constitutes key support for smooth transition of downstream coating and painting enterprises. Shijiazhuang Feizi Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. will keep deepening its presence in fine‑chemical additive tracks supporting coatings, cater to upgrading demands of China’s coatings industry, and deliver stable and reliable raw‑material solutions for industry clients.
